Micro-pigmentation or Semi-permanent Make-up
Micro-pigmentation
(semi-permanent make-up) is the application of pigment
beneath the skin. This is a form of tattooing, in a refined and
safe manner. Micro-pigmentation can enhance or overall appearance
by giving your skin and facial features more color and definition.
The "Sally Hayes" technique is utilized; as it is found
to be the most effective and achieves the most natural results.
Jeannine Dabb has had extensive training with Sally Hayes and
has done hundreds of procedures. She is recognized as the true
expert in the region. She does many new patients and has significant
experience in revision of procedures done elsewhere.
Background
The earliest evidence of tattooing dates back to the ice age.
Some cosmetic tattooing, such as eyeliner, was done thousands
of years ago by Egyptians, but tattooing really came into its
own as an industry in the late 1970s. At that time, various artists
around the country began offering semi-permanent makeup/cosmetic tattooing
and reconstructed pigmentation.
In the 1980s, aestheticians and cosmetologists became interested
in performing these procedures, training programs were established
throughout the country and the industry has grown rapidly since
then. In many states, such as Pennsylvania and Maryland, they
must be performed with medical supervision, with strict medical
control due to the risks of hepatitis and HIV by tattooing. When
micro-pigmentation is done under proper sterile conditions, there
is little opportunity for disease transmission.

Micro-pigmentation is a good procedure
for you if:
The
application of semi-permanent makeup is done by hand with a special
machine. Our aesthetician has the most advanced system available,
utilizing acupuncture needles for a nearly painless experience. The
technique is performed with topical/local anesthesia if necessary
and with strict adherence to sterile techniques.
Semi-permanent makeup consists of fine particles of iron oxide-based
pigment compounds, which are placed precisely within the middle
layer of the skin to provide color. The most advanced pigments
are used, which are fully FDA approved. The pigments are individually
mixed to provide customized results and most are mixed specifically
for the semi-permanent cosmetic use.
After
the treated area should be kept clean but not scrubbed. Excess
pigment on the skin surface will shed naturally without disturbing
the implanted pigment. After the procedure, you will be given
instructions in aftercare and be provided the necessary supplies.
There will most likely be some swelling of the area. Healing time
varies, but normally it is three days to one week.
In four to six weeks, when the inner healing is complete, your
technician may want to see you for a "touch-up" or a
second application. Several weeks later, the healing will be complete
and the final evaluation of the result can be made.

Eyeliner
Eyeliner is one of the few types of makeup does not alter. Done
conservatively, micro-pigmentation between the lash follicles
makes the lashes look thicker; a subtle but definite enhancement
takes place.
Brow Enhancement
The shape and color of the brows set the environment for a beautiful
eye, much like a picture requiring a proper frame. Brows may be
distorted by inappropriate plucking, previous surgery with visible
scars, chemotherapy, and age. They may be modified in shape and
color.
Lip Enhancement
Lip liner or lip enhancement may place pigment to the border
of the lip of the entire lip; this is done conservatively, to
accentuate the border and may be utilized to change with shape.
This is a good option for the patient with wrinkles of the lip,
causing bleeding of lipstick, but does not want to resurface the
lip skin with laser or fillers.
