Skin CareSkin care at the Center is initiated by our aestheticians. A history of existing skin care and make-up patterns is reviewed. Many clients have used many of the over-the-counter skin care lines with limited result or problems of tolerance to the products. The skin is evaluated clinically. A history of smoking, herpetic infections, Acutane use, is necessary to place one into the most apprpriate treatment plan. Any concern for significant disease processes, such as skin cancer or systemic diseases effecting the skin, may be referred to Dr. Dabb.

Many times, digital photography will be utilized along with UV photography to help assess the nature of the environmental damage. This assessment not only aids in the initial assessment, but also aids in determining the efficacy of skin care treatment. Manipulation of digital photographs may be helpful in clearly demonstrating problems such as telangiectasias, etc.. In addition, by the fact that the photography is digital, it is simple to obtain distant opinions as to the nature of the problems.

Skin care has become a central subject in modern concepts of wellness. No one would have guessed thirty years ago, that most of our children’s teeth would be “cavity free”. Today, it is an assumption that proper preventive dental care will eliminate most of the problems related to dental caries. Advanced skin care is now becoming recognized as equally important in the protection of the skin. With the environmental changes that are taking place, with the diminishing ozone layer, and the social trends to more environmental exposure, it is more important than ever that protective skin care programs be utilized. This is clearly emphasized by the significant increase in skin cancer in youth and the incidence of malignant melanoma reaching one out of sixty Americans. Regardless of this, unattended, our skin will age, collagen breaks down, we wrinkle and discolor.

The Center provides skin care products that may only be provided with physician supervision. These products obviously undergo greater scrutiny and are of higher concentrations of active ingredients than those obtained commercially. In addition, by obtaining them from the Center, the efficacy and reaction to the individual products may be professionally assessed. Not infrequently, products may need to be changed or replaced do to your intolerance of them.

The goals of a skin care system are the following:

  • Diminish fine lines and wrinkles
  • Increase skin smoothness
  • Reduce pores
  • Improve elasticity
  • Improve skin tone
  • Normalize oil production
  • Reduce age spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Increase tolerance to external factors

To obtain these goals, the systems most likely will incorporate the use of RetinA, cleansers, exfoliating acids, skin bleaching agents, moisturizers and sun screens. There are also new agents that effect the “free radicals “ of the skin. These agents may be used alone, or in combination with other modalities of care, including glycolic washes, superficial chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser resurfacing.

The skin care programs most frequently utilized by the Center are Obagi, Therapon, and Biomedic. They are prescribed based on clinical need, reactions to previous product lines, and budget. Other product lines, including sunscreens, etc., are also available. The Center is constantly evaluating new products and combinations of product , to meee clients.t the needs of t

In addition to skin care products, glycolic washes and facials are available at the Center.
