Skin Care Treatment and Products
Advanced
skin care is now becoming recognized as equally important
in the protection of the skin. With the environmental changes
that are taking place, with the diminishing ozone layer,
and the social trends to more environmental exposure, it
is more important than ever that protective skin care programs
be utilized. This is clearly emphasized by the significant
increase in skin cancer in youth and the incidence of malignant
melanoma reaching one out of sixty Americans. Unattended,
our skin will age, wrinkle and discolor.
Skin care products are available that may only be provided
with physician supervision. These products obviously undergo
greater scrutiny and are of higher concentrations of active
ingredients than those obtained commercially.
In addition, by obtaining them from the Center, the efficacy
and reaction to the individual products may be professionally
assessed. Not infrequently, products may need to be changed
or replaced do to your intolerance of them.

Goals
The goals of a skin care system are the following:
To obtain these goals, the systems most likely will incorporate
the use of RetinA, cleansers, exfoliating acids, skin bleaching
agents, moisturizers and sun screens. There are also new
agents that effect the “free radicals “ of the
skin. These agents may be used alone, or in combination
with other modalities of care, including glycolic washes,
superficial chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser
resurfacing.

Products
The skin care products most frequently utilized by the
Center are:
-
Obagi
-
Therapon
-
LaRoche-Posay
-
They are prescribed based on clinical need, reactions to
previous product lines, and budget. Other product lines,
including sunscreens, bleaches, etc., are also available.
The Center is constantly evaluating new products and combinations
of product, to meet patient needs.
In addition to skin care products, glycolic washes and
facials are available.
