Aesthetic Mentoplasty/Chin
Concept - Aesthetic
mentoplasty (or genioplasty) is a procedure to change
the shape and projection of the chin. Many patients who originally
come for rhinoplasty consultations, thinking their nose is
too large, find it is actually a problem with recessive ness
of the chin or a poor dental occlusion.
If it is an occlusal (orientation of the jaws) problem,
the patient is referred for proper dental evaluation and then
a treatment plan would be developed along with the help of an
orthodontist. If the patient has already had orthodontics or
the problem is purely one of projection of the chin, a mentoplasty
will be planned.
